Crayon Butterfly by Severen13 Crayon Butterfly by Severen13
Yeah, I know it's hardly my best drawing but let me explain.

I've never been very good with colored drawings, but want to fix that. I received "Amazing Crayon Drawings" by Lee Hammond as an early birthday present and this is my first effort. Rough, I know, but this is a first effort and I'm hoping improvement will show as I go along.

Any tips and/or critiques will be greatly appreciated.

You did this with crayon?

Looks like a butterfly with eyes where the circles are on the wings, great composition. I couldn't color or draw as well as you have. The crayons give it a soft look, I enjoy the purple lines in the wings like veins, you picked nice colors that almost look like neon, so they look real because their wings glow in black light and ultraviolet colors. Very realistic.

Crayons are actually a cool media to use, because it can sometimes leave a nice rough texture on paper to add a bit more detail besides the coloring. Loved the drawing overall, I think you should do more of this! :D

I like it. light circular strokes work better, also works great when blending colors together:nod:

Nice colours and shape. crayon is fun, makes it look very cute. with crayon, however, it makes it look a little vague.

All we can do is but hope for improvement in life. Corny and preachy, but true.

That is beautiful. The colors are so delicate. I wish there was a little more contrast, and some darker lines in general. Especially so around the thorax, the wings are little indistinguishable from the body. It also might look more natural if there were a few more, tiny details around the head. Seriously though, those colors are REALLY pretty. Its like all of my favorite colors in one butterfly. :3

oo this is pretty! I love the butterfly's pattern o3o

the butterfly itself is very well drawn
the only thing that I can see that you need to work on is the actual coloring bit. There are little white dots everywhere, making the colors look messy, and the edges blurred. It's a bit difficult to be neat with crayons though....
You could try coloring in little circles, and then use something to smudge the wax. Just take the time to try to eliminate as many white dots as possible....
Also, I would take a slightly darker color and give a crisp outline to the butterfly's wings. In this case, I would use a shade of orange.
Another way to create the same effect is to use a more contrasting color in the background. You mostly used green, which seems to blend into the yellows on the edges of the wings.
I would use more purple shades to contrast with the yellows. This would make the butterfly stand out more, and make the entire piece look a little neater

But this is a very good first effort! Crayons are EVIL to draw with, and you managed to make this look decent~ Kudos!
and keep it up~~

I LOVE IT! You did a wonderful job. Pencils, chalk, pastels, and crayon are my favorite traditional medium for myself to use. I'm totally untrained and haven't done a whole lot, but I sure love looking at what others have done.

This is awesome! One thing I've learned about using crayons to draw with is that they blend well together if you take the time to blend them on the paper, similar to the way you blend pencil sketches... but with more color. I don't know, maybe just a new style tip or something. That's just what I do when I draw with crayons.

But this pic is awesome anyway! Great job!

Try being more the same since a butterfly has two same sides. Also consider shading with lighter and darker colors. And pratcing more often with something your not fimilar with can help also. Btw even a rough darwing can be as lovely as anyother when properly done. Over all this pic is pretty indeed with its detail a selection of colors. ^^
